Dark brown oak windows and doors in Dundee: a matching set

By Tony Kalsi, Owner · 23 October 2026

Eco Glaze Scotland fitted dark brown oak windows and a matching door across the front of a home in Dundee. Every new frame and both doors were finished in the same dark brown oak, so the plain brick front now reads as one warm, smart finish rather than a mix of old and new.

What we fitted

Dark brown oak windows across the front of a Dundee home

We took out the old windows and doors across the front of the house and fitted new ones throughout, all in dark brown oak. Upstairs there is a new window in the same finish, downstairs a wide window with slim top-opening lights over a large fixed pane, and another new window round on the gable, so the house matches from every side you can see it. The frames are made to measure for each opening, so they sit square and tidy against the brickwork.

The finish

A dark brown oak finish with a woodgrain texture

Dark brown oak is a wood-effect finish, so from the street the frames have the look of timber on a modern window. Up close you can see the grain running through the frame and the tidy mitred corner where two sections meet.

On a brown brick house like this one, keeping every window and both doors to the same dark brown means your eye runs along the whole front without catching on a colour clash, which is a big part of why it looks so much sharper now.

The doors

A matching front door and side door

The two new doors were finished in the same dark brown oak as the windows. The front door has a tall obscured-glass panel that lets light into the hall while keeping the inside private, with a chrome handle and a matching letterplate. Next to it, the second door is a panelled design in the same colour, so the pair sit together neatly under the canopy. Carrying the window colour onto the doors is a small thing that makes the whole entrance look pulled together.

Replacing windows and doors in Dundee

Dundee City Council is the planning authority for work like this across the city. For most homes, you will not need planning permission to replace your windows and doors. The council’s own guidance on replacement windows and doors is clear that properties “outwith a Conservation Area which are not listed buildings do not require planning permission for replacement windows”. The rules are tighter in Dundee’s conservation areas: there, a replacement on the main elevation is expected to match the existing window in details like the “dimensions and colour of the frame”, so in a conservation area the colour of your frames is one of the things those rules cover. A listed building needs listed building consent for work that affects its character. Whatever the frame, a new window also has to meet Scotland’s building standards, the regulations that “set out technical requirements applicable to building work to protect the public interest”.
